Working Agreements Vs Norms

As with every frame, it`s important to adapt it to your own needs and culture. When introducing work agreements within your team, consider the most appropriate approach. I hope you have found this overview of teamwork agreements. If you have any questions, comments or even arguments against them, I would like to hear them. The goal of setting team standards is to build a culture of the ONE team, and that`s something to send it back when it gets rocky within the team. Save often and keep in mind that agreements can always be renegotiated, especially when new members join or situations change. Each new team has a strong dynamic, with individuals preferring a certain mix of behaviors and practices. Respect your uniqueness! Please! It`s far from all there is to make deals, so go ahead and find out more! And if you wish, share knowledge in comments ☺ The Team Work Agreement (VA) is a set of standards defined by a team as best practices and behaviors to work together smoothly and ensure the success of the task or project to come. This list of standards should help the team manage everyone`s expectations and facilitate conflict resolution. Different types of agreements are used for different purposes. But there is no need to leave that to chance.

Effective teams have a common approach to work (but not a rigid process). They explicitly define working agreements on “how we do things.” Team agreements are developed to meet challenges and aspirations. Teams find a way to talk about what matters and decide how they implement these priorities on a day-to-day basis. You can set the VA at the beginning of a project (Sprint 0) and check the list in retrospectives or if the team requests changes. You can also set the VA at meetings that make your job easier. Suppose you are working with a team you are not familiar with and they will allow, for example, a retrospective or training. In this video, Phil Gold explores the value of team agreements. Find out how the team, how it wants to work together, gets contributions in terms of cooperation so that everyone can be invested.

Creating an agile teamwork agreement should be a collaborative process. As I said before, there are many ways to do it, and I am just describing a way that has worked well for our teams. If you think about facilitating this process, you ask yourself, “What is your most comfortable team in terms of cooperation?” At Crema, it is now a standard that we use a virtual whiteboard (even if no one remotely joins), called Miro. Using a product like Miro can be useful because of the variety of functions such as coordination, reaction, timer, etc. However, you can use a collaborative document like Dropbox Paper, normal grip notes or even a physical whiteboard to anchor discussions. It`s really up to you. Work agreements describe positive behaviours that are fundamental but often not automatically demonstrated in team processes.
